Conrad & Retha live and work in Zambia on a game lodge, it was thus difficult to arrange the wedding that was at Thaba Tshwene Game lodge in the North West, about 50 km past Klerksdorp. Luckily their families helped them to arrange things on this side while they were still in Zambia. Thaba Tshwene is an INCREDIBLY beautiful place, make sure you check out their website if you need a place to get married.
They met each other whilst studying at Tuks, they met at a social poker evening. They haven’t chat a lot at the poker evening, but later the evening Retha and a friend were looking for coffee, and Conrad helped them. Her friend Zibeth said Retha was VERY impressed with him, asking all sorts of questions about Conrad on their way to their hostel. Conrad sms her the same evening and said he wants to take her out.
Retha invited him to a dance.
Conrad decided to ask her to be his girlfriend when they went to see The Nutcracker one evening, his friends ruined his plans though. He came up with an even more memorable idea. he took her to the top of LOVEDAY street in Pretoria, and asked her there.
They’ve been going out for 5 years already, during that period she worked in Dubai for a year and he worked in Korea for two years.
They got engaged whilst on holiday at Mount Sheba, they packed a picnic basket and he asked her there and then. He did it the right way, went on the one knee and everything, he even had his camera on video and filmed everything.
She likes the special things he does and the fact that he makes her a better person, he even wrote new words for an old Afrikaans hymn and his sister sang it in church.
They were lucky that Conrad’s dad is a minister in Potchefstroom and he married them, what a special moment that must have been for both of them.
Conrad’s speech, what can I say, I never felt so sorry for a groom, his friends really gave him no time to finish his speech….but, he came through it with flying colours.
