Bruce and Rachelle’s wedding at Galagos Country Estate

JC Crafford Photo and Video wedding photography at Galagos Country Estate

Bruce & Rachelle’s wedding was one of two weddings I did in two days at the beautiful Galagos Country estate.

I’ve met this lovely couple at their pre wedding shoot already, and loved them right from the start. Bruce is this really funny guy (without knowing it) and Rachelle has the most beautiful shy smile I have ever seen.

It’s clear that they do things differently, no Phuket or Mauritius honeymoon for them. They went to Scotland to see some castles. Bruce even sang a song for Rachelle at the wedding that he composed himself. And, they read a poem of Dr Seuss during the ceremony!

The whole wedding was very laid back and lots of fun, nobody stressing, everyone were just having a good time.

I asked them a couple of questions after the wedding:

How did you meet?

We met at a Grade 10 camp in 2005.  Bruce told our mutual friend that he was interested in me.  However, this happened within ear shot of another friend, who immediately ran to tell me “I know who likes you!”  Initially I was hesitant to talk to him, but after a lot of perseverance on his part, we eventually started chatting and the rest is history ☺

How did Bruce propose?

Bruce proposed on the 20th of November 2015.  He had organised with his mom to invite my family over for dinner that night.  Just as dessert was about to be served, Bruce thanked everyone for coming and that family was important.  He then got down on one knee, ring in hand and asked me to marry him.  I didn’t suspect a thing, and I think my answer was something along the lines of, “What a stupid question”.  None of my family, except for my dad, had any idea that this would happen, so it was a huge surprise for all of us.

Describe your wedding day

It was perfect.  It was held at the beautiful Galagos Country Estate in Pretoria.  We were worried about the weather in the days leading up to the wedding, but that Saturday we had blue skies and not a cloud in sight.  We got married in the forest, under the trees, in front of our family and friends.  Our ceremony was short and sweet, and very relaxed.  We wanted it to be fun, and even incorporated one of the poems by Dr Seuss in our ceremony.

Our reception started with a bang, when I missed one of the steps leading in to the hall, twisting my ankle in the process.  But I did not notice this until much later in the evening.  I danced and partied on my sore ankle without feeling a thing!  Our reception was one hell of a party filled with wonderful music, amazing food and lots of dancing.

A huge bonfire was lit at midnight.  Bruce and his dad bought out their guitars and entertained us with music until the early hours of the morning.  We had so much fun, and the entire wedding reflected our personalities perfectly.  We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!

Tell us about your dress:

My dress was a lace and tulle trumpet gown in ivory, which I bought from Bridal Manor in Pretoria.  I tried on a lot of dresses before I found my dress.  It was just my mom and I when I tried on the dress the first time.  I narrowed my choices down to three and invited my sister, gran and my now mom-in-law to view the dresses and give their opinions.  When I came out in my dress and everyone had tears in their eyes, I knew that it was the dress for me.  It fitted me perfectly, and made me feel so beautiful.  I was a bit nervous about what Bruce would think of the dress since he knew nothing about it.  But seeing his face when I walked down the aisle, I knew I made the right choice.

…and the flowers?

We wanted something simple and rustic for the flowers, but also beautiful and elegant, and the florist (Isabel Thomys from ICT Flower Designs) managed to capture that perfectly.  I wanted to have Proteas because they are my favourite flower.  My bouquet was a white King Protea surrounded by roses, and the centrepieces were wooden boxes filled with King Proteas, gerberas, roses and foliage.  Since our colours were mint, teal and silver, the flowers were mainly white with the green leaves and foliage.

What was the Highlight of the wedding for you?

For me, it was most definitely the song Bruce wrote and sang for me on the night.  It was such a wonderful surprise and was so beautifully written.  For Bruce, it was his saying his speech surrounded by his friends, even though he had to first ask them to come join him ☺

Was there any drama on the wedding day?

At one point during the day, Bruce thought he had lost the rings.  Turns out, they were just put into a different bag.  But other than that, no, there was nothing serious that we were aware of.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

We went on a Contiki tour to Scotland for six days for our honeymoon.  It was breathtakingly beautiful – there are no words to truly describe it.  We saw such beautiful castles and scenery and learnt so much about the history of the country.  It really was an experience, and Bruce found a new favourite food in haggis – which in his words is “The greatest food ever conceived” ☺.  We had such an amazing time.  It was incredibly cold, but it was totally worth it!  We were just sad we couldn’t have stayed there longer.

Tell us about your photographer.

JC and his team (Timothy and Maria) were absolutely amazing.  They made us feel relaxed and at ease the entire day and the photos are stunning.  The night shoot was a lot of fun and we are so glad we had the opportunity to do it.  We couldn’t have asked for better photographers and videographers to capture our day and we would highly recommend them!  We were honoured to have you as our photographers and videographer and we cannot wait to see the rest of the pictures and the video ☺

Who did you Hair and makeup?

My makeup was done by Minette Brand of Minette Bridal Makeup and my hair was done by Simoné Meyer from Studio S Hairstyling.  I wanted a natural look for my makeup and an upstyle for my hair and they did a fantastic job on both.  They are such lovely ladies and they really made me feel comfortable and relaxed.  I couldn’t have asked for better and would definitely recommend them!  Minette and Simoné work really well together to do hair and makeup and their details are as follows:
