An old friend of mine from matric, Herman van Deventer, referred me to Beau & Marcil, he was their wedding videographer and they still needed a photographer. Not only was I excited about photographing a wedding at Linwood farm in Clarens again, but I was also excited to see (and work) with my old friend from school. It was only the second time in 33 years that we saw each other.
The Friday afternoon I drove through to Clarens, listening to my favourite music on my tablet through my car’s stereo….and enjoying the beautiful Free State scenery.
I met Beau on Friday evening at a restaurant in Clarens where family and friends got together for an early celebration of the special wedding the next day..and immediately liked him. Good looking, friendly…and nervous about his wedding the next day. All of us had a wonderful supper together.
The Saturday I went through to Linwood Guest farm…and met Marcil. Quiet, beautiful…and clearly very much in love with Beau!
After the ceremony I started photographing the couple in a rush, it was clear that it will start raining any minute and I was in a hurry to get as many shots for the couple as the weather would allow us…45 minutes later it started raining…and that was the end of our photo session. But I think Beau and Marcil have enough photos to remind them of the very special wedding that they had at the beautiful Linwood Farm in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains.
The old farmstyle romantic setting of Linwood farm was the ideal starting point for Marcil and Beau’s wedding. The party lasted till late in the night, friends and family united…and enjoyed this new union!
I just dropped Marcil’s photos, and she was so downhearted, Beau has left again (he works in India…and they will only see each other again in 6 weeks time)
I pray that you two will be together very soon…forever this time, because it is clear to me that you are destined to be together.
Thanks for making me a part of your wedding day Beau and Marcil, I will always have very special memories of you as a couple and of your friends and family that I’ve met.
I asked Marcil a couple of questions:
How did you meet?
It was a crisp spring day, on 1 September 2007 when we had a friends get together at the botanical gardens in Pretoria. The vibe was electric; with unexampled efflorescences with a persistent angelic aromatic sensation of unparalleled feeling of felicity. I would never forget his long golden curly hair which reminded me of an angel in my dreams, and the moment that time STOPPED. Since that heavenly day my hubby and I would go back and he would say : “Blommetjies, hierdie tuin groei nou in ons harte en dit sal ons nooit verlaat nie”

We got engaged in Golden gate near Clarens on the top of a mountain; the “Brandwag”. It was charmingly special, I am terrified of heights and could not understand why Beau asserted we climb to the very top. He is persistent in nature and would not give up until we got to the highest remnant. The climb was exhorbitant with an incredible feeling towards the moment where he fell on his knees on top of the world and our destiny was forever affirmed.
Describe your wedding day:
The most memorable part of our wedding was the moment my father walked me in the church and the only person I could see was Beau standing there, after my father gave me away, I immediately gave my flowers to someone and took his hand in both of mine.
I got married in my grandmother’s dress. She got married in it 46 years ago. It was so special. She is one of my best friends, and it was a great honour.
I chose st Joseph lily’s. It is one of my favourite flower’s. The flower arrangements was done by my Grandmother whose dress I got married in.
Highlight of the wedding
Our first dance. Was one of my highlights.
I love dancing with Beau.
Our honeymoon was very special!!! Beau surprised me with the simplistic view that we both love in life, the building blocks of our first date, our engagement, our marriage and simply pure nature.. We spend some time in Clarens and Dullstroom which created a dance floor for our souls as one fire that burns so bright and hot that a thousand suns would fade against our pure love.
Tell us about your photographer.
JC was wonderful and made us feel at ease. Which is important, because the wedding day can be stressful at times.
Who did your make-up and hair? My wonderful new mother in law did my make up. Like only she can with an artistic thouch. Her name is Susan Van Staden
Where was your honeymoon? Clarens and Dullstroom
Do you have any advice for other brides/grooms-to-be?
Don’t stress about the small stuff. Because the day goes by so fast, and everything works out at the end.
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
Vintage wedding. With cream, green and silver
